April Cottage
residents: Kathy [formerly Holland] & (son) Jamie Perks

Long-standing landlord Jack Woolley sold this semi-detached cottage to Kathy Perks in 2001 following her separation and divorce from Sid Perks. It was the former home to village shop gossip Martha Wood ford, who was best known as the unofficial caretaker of the green’s red telephone box. Martha died in 1996.

John Archer lived there for a short time while dating Hayley Tucker [nee Jordan]. But when things got a bit rocky, he soon found himself tangled in an affair with Sharon Richards. It didn’t take long for Hayley to discover his infidelity and she left him.

The cottage was built in the 60’s by Charles Grenville as a replacement to the worker’s cottages that were demolished in order to make way for a new road. April Cottage sometimes stands opposite Ambridge Hall, sometimes down the lane from Ambridge Hall and sometimes detached from Keeper’s Cottage. [See Archers Addicts Official Map of Ambridge.]
