The Bull
residents: Sid & Jolene [nee Rogers] Perks, Fallon Rogers
Located on the village green, this half-timbered free house is part owned and operated by local bigot Sid Perks who jointly purchased it from Peggy Woolley [nee Perkins, formerly Archer] in 1993 with the help of Guy Pemberton.
Earlier residents were alcoholic Jack and
Peggy Archer who were loaned the money from
Aunt Laura to buy The Bull’s freehold and
add an addition so she could move in.
After Guy's death in 1996, his widow
Caroline inherited his share of the pub, and
in 2000 purchased a further stake (to 51%)
in order that Sid could pay off his ex-wife
Kathy.
In 2006 Caroline sold her majority share in
the pub to Lilian Bellamy, who has since
updated the decor introducing new curtains
and carpets throughout.
The current building dates back to the late seventeenth century and consists of three areas: the main bar, the Ploughman’s and The Bull Upstairs. Food consists of your usual pub grub, but expect some good home cooking there from none other than Freda Fry. Chef savant Fry can warm any cold or hungry belly!
In 2005, The Bull was named Best Pub of Borsetshire.
