The Stables
residents: Alistair Lloyd, Shula [nee Archer, formerly Hebden] & Daniel Hebden-Lloyd
Sited on what used to be called Barratt’s Farm, when Fred Barratt retired in 1965 he sold the farmhouse and a couple of acres to (Aunt) Laura Archer, who named the house “Onemomona” - Maori for ‘home sweet home’.
In 1967 Laura allowed Lilian Archer [now Bellamy] to set up a riding school on the site and later sold both land and house to her. Lilian renamed the house The Stables.
In 1977 Dan and Phil Archer bought the house and business for Christine Johnson [nee Archer, now Barford], who was already running the riding school for Lilian. This enabled Christine to have some financial security after her husband, Paul Johnson, went bankrupt.
In 1998 Shula Hebden [nee Archer, now Hebden-Lloyd], became a partner in the business and she, husband Alistair Lloyd and son Daniel, moved into The Stables upon Christine’s retirement during the great Ambridge property shuffle of 2001.
In 2006 Alistair and Shula were forced to
take out a mortgage on the property after
Alistair had amassed gambling debts of
£100k.
